Ophthalmology
The Department of Ophthalmology offers comprehensive eye care services including evaluation and management of ocular diseases, medical ophthalmology, cataract surgery, and adnexal surgeries. The department is supported by a dedicated team of experienced ophthalmologists, optometrists, nursing staff, and technical personnel, ensuring high-quality patient care and academic training. The department actively contributes to undergraduate medical education and promotes evidence-based clinical practice, research, and community-oriented eye health services.
The department conduct community outreach activities including school eye screening programmes, outreach camps for defence and civilian populations, mobile Ophthalmology OPD services at KMCH outreach centres with cataract surgeries offered at subsidized rates during special programmes.
The department functions with a vision to deliver excellence in ophthalmic education, research, and patient-centred eye care while promoting preventable blindness control and community eye health.
Clinical Services and Facilities
• Cataract Surgery: Phaco-emulsification and Manual Small Incision Cataract Surgery (MSICS).
• Pterygium surgery with conjunctival limbal autograft.
• Secondary IOL surgery with iris-claw lens
• Anterior vitrectomy.
• Corneal, scleral, and lid tear repairs.
• Lacrimal sac surgeries (open and endoscopic).
Eye OPD Services
• Automated and dilated refraction (paediatric and adult).
• Non-contact and contact tonometry.
• Slit-lamp examination, A-scan biometry
• Gonioscopy and glaucoma evaluation.
• Visual fields, VEP.
• Contact lens fitting and low-vision aids.
• Diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy screening.
• ROP screening.
